What is Serial to Fiber Converter (RS-232/422/485) ?

The serial to fiber converter can extend asynchronous RS-232, RS-485 or RS-422 serial transmissions over a distance of up to 2km using multimode fiber or up to 20km using singlemode fiber. The serial to fiber converters are capable of selecting interface modes for connection to RS-232 (RXD, TXD, GND), RS-485 (A, B half-duplex mode) or RS-422 (RX-, RX +, TX-, TX + full duplex mode). The converters secure asynchronous serial data transmissions over EMI resistant fiber at speeds up to 115200bps. The serial to fiber converters are available in either one fiber optic transceiver and one electrical interface or two fiber optic transceivers and one electrical interface.
